About Chiropractic

What is that popping sound?

There has been some debate amongst Chiropractors in recent times as to what causes the popping sound. Some research has suggested that it is the formation of gas bubbles within the joint space while other research has suggested that it is actually the collapse of those bubbles that creates the signature noise. It makes the most sense to us here at PROFORM that it’s the collapse of these bubbles that gives us the popping sound. Check out this video that shows a real-time MRI of a knuckle being adjusted. You can see the gas bubble form and then immediately collapse on this chiropractor website.

What are chiropractic adjustments?

There are stretch receptors within the muscles around each joint and they require movement in order to tell the brain where that particular joint is in space. Without movement, the stretch receptors can't effectively communicate exactly where that joint is in space. This causes a feedback loop where the brain continues to send more spasm signals to protect the joint. Chiropractic adjustments introduce a rapid movement into the stretch receptors, thereby breaking the spasm cycle and allowing the brain to get the full picture about where all the joints are in space. Research has shown that chiropractic adjustments can not only can reduce back and neck pain but can also improve strength, coordination, and reaction time.

What is a corrective chiropractor?

Adjustments at PROFORM often include corrective exercises, PNF stretching, IASTM, trigger point therapy, pin and stretch, and other soft tissue techniques in addition to traditional chiropractic techniques like Diversified, Activator, Thompson, and Logan. We also assess and treat the full body during each visit, not just the spine. This video features a patient receiving a full body manual adjustment with some soft tissue work on the neck and forearm. Contact your Bettendorf chiropractor for more information.

Do chiropractors treat sports injuries?

We evaluate and treat a variety of sports injuries here at PROFORM Chiropractic & Sports Performance. Here we demonstrate a typical shoulder exam on a patient with a torn labrum, first explaining what we’re looking for with each test and then performing an orthopedic exam at reel time speed. We evaluate and treat lots of sports injuries. Chiropractor sports injury for labrum tear, rotator cuff tear, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, hot shoulder, plantar fasciitis, ankle sprain, and more!
